Connected Accounts

Learn how to connect and manage GitHub and Azure DevOps accounts in Cloudback for centralized backup management across all your organizations.

Cloudback allows you to connect multiple GitHub and Azure DevOps accounts to manage backups from a single dashboard. This page explains how accounts work, how to connect them, and how to manage access.

Supported Account Types

GitHub

Cloudback supports both personal GitHub accounts and GitHub Organizations:

  • Personal Accounts: Back up repositories owned by your GitHub user account

  • Organizations: Back up repositories across your organization with shared team access

Azure DevOps

Cloudback supports Azure DevOps Organizations:

  • Organizations: Back up repositories across all projects within an organization

  • Projects: Repositories are organized by project within each organization

Connecting Accounts

To connect a GitHub account or organization:

  1. Sign in to the Cloudback Dashboard with your GitHub account

  2. Your personal repositories and organizations where you have Owner access will appear automatically

  3. For organizations purchased through GitHub Marketplace, ensure the Cloudback app is installed

For detailed setup instructions, see GitHub Installation Guide.

GitHub Marketplace Subscription

The recommended way to purchase Cloudback for GitHub is through the GitHub Marketplace:

  • Subscribe directly from your GitHub account

  • Use existing GitHub billing

  • Automatic installation on the organization

Permissions and Access

Who Can Access Organization Backups

Access is based on your GitHub organization role:

  • Owners: Full access to all repositories and backup settings

  • Members: Cannot access organization repositories in Cloudback

Only organization members with the Owner role can access the organization's repositories in Cloudback.

Required Permissions

Cloudback requires the following GitHub App permissions:

  • Repository contents (Read): To clone repository content

  • Metadata (Read): To list repositories and access basic information

  • Issues (Read): To back up issues and comments

  • Pull requests (Read): To back up pull requests and reviews

Managing Multiple Accounts

You can connect multiple accounts from both platforms to a single Cloudback dashboard:

  • Each account appears separately in the platform-specific dashboard

  • Use the navigation to switch between GitHub and Azure DevOps views

  • A single subscription can cover multiple accounts across both platforms

Subscription Coverage

  • Subscriptions are based on the number of repositories

  • Coverage applies to all repositories in assigned accounts

  • A single subscription can be shared across multiple accounts, including both GitHub and Azure DevOps organizations

  • You can purchase multiple plans to increase coverage

For detailed pricing information, see Payment Methods. To learn how to assign multiple accounts to a subscription, see Subscription Management.

Disconnecting Accounts

To disconnect an account from Cloudback:

  1. Navigate to the Cloudback Dashboard

  2. Click on your profile icon

  3. Select "Manage Connections"

  4. Find the account and click "Disconnect"

Warning: Disconnecting an account will stop all scheduled backups for that account. Existing backup archives will be retained according to your retention policy.

Troubleshooting

Cannot See All Repositories

  • GitHub: Verify you have Owner access to the organization

  • Azure DevOps: Verify you have access to the project containing the repository

  • Check that repositories are not disabled or archived

Account Not Listed

  • Ensure you're signed in with the correct account (GitHub or Microsoft)

  • For GitHub organizations, verify the Cloudback app is installed

  • For Azure DevOps, verify you have at least Reader access to the organization

  • Try signing out and signing back in
